Life Lessons Worth Remembering

It would be SO sweet, if we could live our lives with never a bothersome, troublesome or annoying thing to threaten our peace. But, unfortunately, sometimes stuff happens!

Epictetus said, “It’s not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters.” But some days — and occasionally some years — it seems like our “how you react to it” formula is being tested far beyond reason. If you’re feeling like that, you may find the following thoughts very helpful:

You Can Handle It!

I believe life gives us tests, to check our tensile strength, from time to time, and see if we’re ready. If you’re being tested greatly, you’re being prepared for a greater gain. Take a deep breath and know that eventually this will pass. You can handle it; even if you need to dig deep.

Life Teaches Us Lessons

The lesson we need to learn, at the time,  may not be readily apparent. But know that there is a lesson to be learned. We attracted whatever this is to us — hard to believe, I know — but, “There is no such thing as a problem, without a gift for you in it’s hands. We seek problems, because we need their gifts”(Illusions by Richard Bach). Ask yourself, “what is there for me to learn from this?” and ask it in a positive, seeking way.

Do Not Curse Life

… it will curse back. Sometimes it is difficult to fathom a positive outcome to what seems like a barrage of negative situations. But you may never know the fate you dodged, via the seemingly unfortunate things that happened to you.

Keep Looking Forward, and Up

…with relaxed expectation. As Christopher Robin said to Pooh, “Promise me you’ll always remember: You’re braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.” When you least expect it, your answer will become clear, if you are able to keep your heart open to hear it.

One day. . .

. . . you may need to remind me of all of this. Even the prince of positive is not immune from life’s lessons, and as I lovingly remind you of these things, so I may need you to remind me one of these days. When that day comes, please be gentle :).

When we master our mindset, we master our life. It’s easy to be positive when everything is going right. But it’s during the darkness that you need to be assured that the sun will be coming up soon.

The sun is rising, my friend. Enjoy this awesome day!

Kelvin Ringold

Born to John and Lora Ringold on October 24, 1953, grew up, went to school, graduated high school and joined the Air Force -- turned 18 in basic training. Did 20 years in the Air Force and retired in 1991. Moved to Syracuse, worked at University Hospital and retired from there at 55. During that 55 years... I learned some lessons, one of which is that LIFE is what we make it. I spend a major portion of my waking hours helping other people figure out the same thing. Life is what we make of it, and... "when you master your mindset, you master your life." That's my mission: living it, and teaching it.
